About The Lincolnshire Rivers Trust

The Lincolnshire Rivers Trust covers some of the richest and diverse farmland and watercourses within England. The Trust has been established to help protect, restore and enhance rivers and wetlands in Lincolnshire. From the chalk streams in the Lincolnshire Wolds, across the vast and rich farmland areas and down to the North sea, the Trust engages with local people, communities and authorities to carry out monitoring and improvement projects. We aim to raise awareness of our diverse aquatic landscape and understand the factors influencing our river network and wildlife so that they can be appreciated and enjoyed by all.

Our Vision

The work we do will protect what is already in great shape and transform where restoration is necessary. Our rivers offer recreation and well-being, they connect people with nature. Healthy rivers make a difference to the people who live and work alongside them.

Our Aims and Objectives

Restore: Intensive agriculture, our towns and cities edging closer to our rivers, pollution from industry and a general disconnect from nature have all put pressure on our waterways.

We aim to:

  • Improve water quality – tackling sources of pollution and engaging with landowners on a journey with us
  • Monitor and reduce invasive non-native species
  • Enhance and restore river habitat using both engineering and low-key solutions where appropriate
  • Facilitate the movement of fish by removing obstacles or using innovative solutions to by-pass them

Engage: Many communities exist because of the river they are settled around. Today they provide opportunities for recreation and the chance to stay connected with nature and wildlife.

We aim to:

  • Inspire people to learn more about the river habitat
  • Work with schools and colleges to provide education and work experience opportunities
  • Work with communities to enable ownership of their local river, to allow inclusive decision making and active participation

Influence: Continue to grow our reputation as an organisation that not only delivers, but is working from sound knowledge and evidence.

We aim to:

  • Be recognised locally as a charity working effectively for the local environment
  • Develop strategic partnerships that deliver outcomes that are cost effective and timely
  • To be heard as part of the larger ‘Rivers Trust’ and have our work and projects recognised as meaningful and innovative

Grow: We are small but ambitious, we need to grow our income, staff and volunteers.

We aim to:

  • Create a culture that attracts and retains great staff and volunteers
  • Grow our income from a variety of funding sources and donors to allow sustainable growth
  • Be cost effective and find inventive ways of working to make our money go further

Partner: Working with other organisations, communities and charities enables a bigger and more effective change to our river catchment.

We aim to:

  • Develop strategic partnerships that deliver outcomes that are cost-effective and timely
  • Be the first choice of partner when delivering habit restoration in Lincolnshire
  • Fully participate in partnerships that we are part of, and expect others to do so.
